G Opsteegh. These guys got it and delivered on this album. Not a big fan of their material after Tales from the Thousand Lakes. In a way they refined their sound to a point they put the bands at the forefront of the scene to shame.
Looking at you Entombed. Favorite track: Warriors Trial. This is the beginning of Amorphis' incredible music career. RiffThrovver Amorphis' debut full-length, this record is more steeped in traditional chunky Finnish death metal riffage. After their masterful Privilege of Evil EP, the band further developed that murky sound into a cohesive and more complete full-length.
This album rules and is rife with everything I love about death metal - powerful riffs, sewer-swallowing vocals, and a dense atmosphere. Supreme Finnish death metal. On the EP there are brief overtones of melodic composition; while Amorphis peaks later on the LP, the EP remains a favourite for its lack of artifice; leaving a direct, visceral charge in the emotions of the DM.
